Sent from my iPad - Really?

Someone 'high up' at [a place where I used to] work just sent an email with the default Apple iPad signature. It probably should have read "Sent from my top end iPad 2". That's a fail. You've got to have a decent email signature really, and I've worked out what you should put. I use Apple equipment because it 'just works'. I spend half my life making other people's IT work - I want mine to be reliable. It might be expensive, but it works. However, there is no need to tell everyone we send an email to that it came from an iPhone or iPad.

I know that the idea of such a signature follows that you might make more typos if you're using a mobile device. I don't buy this. Not for the iPad anyway. If you turn it into landscape mode, the 'keys' are almost as large as my MacBook keyboard. And if you really just wanted someone to know that you were on a mobile device, you could change the signature to "Sent from a mobile device." (But we can't have that, can we?!)

Better still, you could create a simple email signature that actually works for you. My signature on ALL my devices, mobile or otherwise is the same. It's clear and concise. Above all, it doesn't include my email address (tip, it's in the mail header):

Firstname Lastname | http://companyurl.com
+44 aaaa bbb ccc | @twitteruser | skype: skypeusername

It works well and gives everyone the information that they need to get hold of me in only two lines. Remember that email signatures are often the way that people seem to "ping" their contact details over to you, so make sure it counts.
